Shivpuri is a town in the Indian State of Madhya
Pradesh with considerable forest cover. It is the
headquarters of the Shivpuri district and located
113 Kms from Gwalior which is the capital of
Madhya Pradesh and 98 Kms from the town Guna.

Shivpuri is the place where the illustrious freedom
fighter “the great Indian Tantia Tope” was hanged
to death by the British in 1859. The district is set
amongst hilly terrain with the average elevation
being 520 m above mean sea level. The district
also has good deciduous forest cover with lush
greenery all around and a wide variety of flora and
fauna.

Adding glory to the beautiful landscape are
the four major rivers Parwati, Sindh, Kuno and
Betwa which run through this district.


Madhav National Park--

The Madhav National Park is a protected forest
area with a wide variety of flora, birds and wild
animals. Deers are the most spotted like the
Chinkara, Blackbuck, Indian Gazelle, Nilgai,
Sambar, Chausingha, Chital etc being the
prominent ones. Some of the other animals found
here are the Grey Jungle Fowl, Leopard, Sloth Bear
and the Langur monkeys. The Park is also famous
for a number of native as well as migratory birds.
Migratory birds like the Pochard, Pintail, Teal,
Golden Oriole, Mallard Gadwall, Red Wattled
Lapwing, Geese, Large Pied Wagtail, White-
Breasted Kingfisher, Pond Heron, Cormorant, White
Ibis, Laggar Falcon, Purple Sunbird, Paradise
Flycatcher and Painted Stork can be spotted
around the artificial lake in the park.

Chhatris--


The Chhatris of Madho Rao Scindia and the
dowager queen Maharani Sakhya Raje Scindia
located in the Mughal gardens amidst flowering
plants, beautiful pathways, hand railing with
Victorian lamps are a delight to take a tour
around.

Madhav Vilas Palace--


The Madhav Vilas Palace was the summer palace
of the Scindias. The architecture is amazing with
lot to admire. Some prominent attractions are the
Ganpati mandap, the ‘Mahal’ with its marble floors,
iron columns, elegant terraces and much more.

Sakhya Sagar Boat Club--
The Sakhya Sagar Boat Club is located on the
shores of the Sakhya Sagar Lake. It is made of
glass panels and very delicate. One can entertain
themselves with the boating and sailing activities
here. The Lake is home to a variety of reptiles like
the Monitor Lizard, Marsh Crocodile or Mugger,
Indian Python etc.

Bhadaiya Kund--

The Bhadaiya Kund is a place of immense natural
beauty alongside a natural spring. The water here
contains lot minerals and considered to have
curing properties.

Climate--

Summer in Shivpuri is hot and the mercury can go
upto 42°C. The winter is mild and pleasing. It rains
between July and September.

How to Reach--

The nearest airport is Gwalior at 112 kms with
flights to Delhi, Bhopal, Indore and Mumbai.
Shivpuri has its own railhead. But the nearest
station with better connectivity is Gwalior at 115
kms or Jhansi at 101 kms with a number trains
passing through it on all four directions. By road
Shivpuri very well connected with the rest of the
country with plenty of buses plying to and fro
Shivpuri to towns like Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal,
Jhansi and Ujjain.
